It’s a common "tape measure moment"—you lay out your new duvet, and the numbers don't seem to align with the package. At Linens Delight, we believe in total transparency regarding our manufacturing process. If your bedding seems slightly smaller than expected, it is usually due to the physical realities of high-loft construction.
Understanding Shell vs. Finished Dimensions
The dimensions stated in our product descriptions refer to the respective shell sizes. This is the measurement of the fabric before it is filled and finished. Once the assembly process begins, several factors naturally impact the final size:
-
The "Tightening" Effect: As we sew the baffle boxes and fill them with premium down, the fabric "pulls" inward to accommodate the volume. This tightening can result in a finished dimension that differs by approximately 1–2 inches from the original shell size.
-
The Loft Factor: A high-loft duvet is a three-dimensional object. As it puffs up with air, it naturally draws the corners in. A duvet that is "smaller" in width is often just "taller" in loft.
-
Natural Cotton Shrinkage: Because we use 100% natural cotton, the fabric is alive and breathable. Exposure to humidity or washing can cause a small, natural shrinkage of the fibers.
Maintaining Your Bedding’s Size
To ensure your duvet or pillow maintains its intended dimensions and longevity, proper maintenance is key. We strongly recommend following our product care instructions to minimize shrinkage and preserve the loft of the fill.
